Travel Insurance Tips for Over 64s

January 2nd, 2010

You’ve chosen your destination and may have even booked some bargain flights online, looking forward to your holiday, lying in the sun, sipping Sangria and soaking up the rays. But are you a senior traveler and have you arranged your over 64s travel insurance?

If you’re an over 64 year old traveler you can often run into problems when trying to find travel insurance. Many insurance providers are less keen to offer travel insurance to people over the age of 64 for a number of reasons. They obviously don’t want to take unnecessary risks. They would like nothing more than to sell insurance policies and have nobody make any claims on them. But older, senior traveler represent an additional risk for insurers due to their age, maybe they have failing health or already have some pre-existing medical conditions.

So what can you do as a senior traveler? it is most important that you don’t leave it too late. Start to look around for your travel insurance cover as soon as possible. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to find the policy that you need.

Start with your existing insurance provider. if you already have some health insurance or life insurance then contact your insurance company and ask if they have specific senior travel insurance policies. And if you have a pre-existing medical condition find out if they provide pre-existing medical condition travel insurance.

It is always a good idea to shop around. Even if you are provided with quotes from your current insurance provider take the figures and look around for a cheaper alternative. There are some experienced senior insurance providers who may be able to beat the prices quoted by other, non-specialist providers.

Once you have found a policy and provider that you are happy with why not consider purchasing multi-trip travel insurance. Save yourself the hassle of having to shop around and find an insurance provider the next time you want to take a vacation, take out a multi-trip policy and save yourself the aggravation.

Whatever you do, always be honest and open with your prospective travel insurance provider. Its never a good idea to lie about your age and its important to provide complete details of your health status and any pre-existing medical conditions that you might have. And makre sure you have a great holiday.
