African Holidays for GRN Members Are Pure Bliss!
For many people, Zambia is a little out of the radar scan for a holiday overseas. It is certainly NOT a place that everybody must visit- but if you ever get the chance – and are a nature lover- by all means – do. Now that Kenya is halving the cost of it’s Visa’s to 25 Pounds for an adults, country might be well worth a visit.

Since it is no longer adviseable to travel to the Victoria Falls via the Zimbabwe shore of the Zambia river (and the Victoria Falls) – that is – unless you bring your private army and all suppies along-:) the border is right in the middle of same river – and if you crossed the middle unintentionally – the Zambian borderguards had no hesitation to shoot on tourists!)
So – Zambia is today capitalizing on the famous Victoria Falls since no toursit dares to enter Zimbabwe any more. One country’s downfall is another’s gain. But fair enough – since Zambia is not to blame for their neighbour lying in the pits. There are 7 Natural Wonders of the World and the Victoria Falls are on this list. The real name that the local cultures and people gave this waterfall was Mosi-Oa-Tunya, in translation this is Smoke that Thunders.

As the water flows over the edge of the waterfall and into the deep gorge below the water is forced back up into the air like a cloud. Rainsbows appear at all angles – a phantstic sight. Zambia holidays have become more and more popular thanks to these waterfalls.

The sheer amazing sight of these falls is not the only reason to visit them. In September and December, the level of water lowers just enough for you to get in and have a swim (mind the crokodiles – though). Now it might not seem like a brilliant idea, but there is a natural pool that is perfectly safe to swim in when the waters are low. The Natural pool overlooks the gorge that the waterfall plummets into and is called the Devils Armchair.
There is also the Victoria Falls National Park. This Park is open to visitors throughout the year and offers tourists an adventure in Safari Life. The Park spans about 23 kilometres squared but is supposed to have many different kinds of wildlife. This National Park/Safari even has the option for you to walk it, though you should take a reliable guide.

Needless to say – a trekking bush Safari is only for the brave of heart and very fit.
The fact is that instead of being stuck in a jeep, you can scour the vegetation and get stuck in with the wilderness -:). Why I’m saying this is: a sudden downpour of rain can get dry rivers flowing and you might not be able to return the path you came- even a Jeep called to rescue may not be able to reach you – - so always take double rations in case of such emergencies – and you can sit this out with calm.
Others- not so fit - are well advised to go by Jeep and with a well informed guide in contact with a clever scout . If you intend to spot "the big 5" of Afican wildlife – they can be found far between and – depending on the season – you’ll need a well informed scout to take you to the places where they are just now – or you’ll never see them – even if your safari takes a full week!

So if you want to go and see some of the most amazing sights in the world, you should consider going to Zambia and make your next holiday decidedly different. For a more luxurious, cleaner and more efficient Holiday- people will prefer South Africa. It’s still Africa, but with an infrafracture that functions.
