3. Hot Springs

For a weekend of wellness and relaxation, the city of Karlovy Vary offers over 300 hot springs and numerous spas. It is an idyllic spot, too, with pastel-colored buildings surrounded by green parks and hills, which is why it comes as no surprise that even famous personalities come here to unwind. The spa town of Marianske Lazne is also nearby, with its own 100 mineral springs and noble houses, along with the town of Frantiskovy Lazne, which was the first in the world to offer a peat pulp bath.

4. Czech Beer

Czech Republic is also popular for its beer. In fact, some of its bottom-fermented beers are known all over Europe and the rest of the world, especially Pilsner Urquell, the world’s first pilsener which is brewed in the country’s largest brewery in Plzen, and Budweiser Budvar, brewed in the city of Ceske Budejovice or Budweis, which once served as the royal brewery of the Holy Roman Emperor. The latter is not to be confused with the American lager produced by Anheuser-Busch.

Make sure you get a taste of the local beer when you visit Czech Republic, along with other popular beverages like Slivovitz, a brandy made from Damson plums, and unique herbal bitters like Fernet Stock and Becherovka, a drink from Karlovy Vary made with a secret recipe – so secret, in fact, that only two people know of it.

5. Puppetry

If there is something the Czechs love as much as their beer, it is their puppet shows, so don’t forget to catch one when you visit Czech Republic. The most famous companies can be found in Prague, though puppet theatres are found in most Czech cities, which also have their own annual puppet festivals.
