This year Vacation in the United Kingdom are more popular than in previous years. The numerous reasons are complex but the majority agree that the primary factor is the current economic environment and the increasing need to reduce costs, especially in connection with family vacations. A further influential fact is the low value of the English Pound which makes foreign vacations expensive for those living in Britain but, alternatively, travel into the UK is cheap. England has many first class vacation destinations including a fine selection of seaside resorts, however increasing numbers of tourists are choosing to take their vacations in cities instead. Popular cities include; London, Bristol and Manchester but there are a great many other cities in Britain in which to take a vacation such as Sheffield. With rooms from as low as twenty pounds a night, bed and breakfast in Sheffield makes for reasonablu priced city vacation destination.
Visitors Attractions In Sheffield
For a city with an industrial heritage especially in the steel and cutlery industries, Sheffield is home to a superb variety of art galleries. The most popular are the Millennium Galleries, Metalworks Gallery and Ruskin Gallery. The Millennium Galleries are free to enter and have visiting exhibitions (entry is for a few pounds. The Ruskin Gallery is based upon a collection given by John Ruskin for the improvement of the working folk of Sheffield and includes watercolors, minerals, casts, paintings, sketches and a small collection of medieval illuminated manuscripts.
Visitors will find that Sheffield has a small selection of museums but the City Museum is found on the outskirts of the center of the city as is the Kelham Island Museum which exhibits all kinds of things associated with the industrial past of the city and old machinery. Even though Sheffield was bombed heavily during WWII several fine examples of Victorian and older buildings survive and the city center is incredibly easy to navigate on foot. Try to make time to see the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which dates back to the 15th century.
Staying In Sheffield
Because the city has a University the bars, cafes and clubs can become surprisingly busy at the weekends, when students make the very most their free time. While many tourists enjoy the vibrant night scene others prefer a more quiet place in which to stay, such visitors should book a room in a hotel away from the city center.
If a weekend city break in Sheffield is not really your thing why not consider booking a few days in a London bed and breakfast, the nation’s capital? Otherwise why not think about booking a couple of weeks in a Liverpool guest house, which was Europe’s Capital of Culture 2008 and has an amazing collection of world class visitor attractions.
The UK has a great deal to offer the visitor and the numerous highly engaging, and incredibly diverse, cities often offer more than the many seaside resorts.
