Travel Secret – Crazy Skiing In Sheregesh – Russia Anyone?

March 10th, 2010

Now folks, when you are born in the Austrian mountain region, like me, you are practically born with skies on your feet.

And saying this – you are always out for new adventures on skies.  Having Russian friends is a big advantage – as they are sure to make crazy plans  for your next skiing trip- like to Novosibirsk (in Winter- note) when we stepped out of the plane it was relatively "warm" – i.e. 27degrees Celsius minus "only".

And although I was wearing "arctic" outfits, I was shivering like a rabbit.  So- off we went by TRAIN to visit Sheregesh Ski Arena – one of Russia’s  best kept travel secrets in skiing- right on the border to Mongolia.  Russians just LOVE riding by train, and this is even affordable to middle class Russians, Euro 100 per person for this trip in a 4-berth cubicle.  The train is packed with people, we are going 600km one way to Sheregesh, on a Friday.  As soon as the train starts to roll- people unpack their picknicks – and snacks and specialities are offered around to "taste" them. As usual, the vodka bottle is not long in the hiding, but we also get nice hot tea from the train service.

Also in the train, you can borrow or rather rent skiers or snowboards- for those who have come without such equipment – like me.  Somewhere along the way the train stops to get fresh coal – people go outside to uncramp their feet and – believe it or not – buy ICECREAM from a vendor.  I’m sticking to the tea – boy – it’s absolutely freezing outside.  We arrive in the morning and stepping outside to a winter-wonderland.

The landscape is breathtaking. 60km of well prepared skiing slopes (7 to be exact) and a modern 6 person lift are awaiting the passengers, brilliant sun- all is perfect – except for the incredible COLD.  To warm myself up, I decide to do crosscountry skiing first, and only then use the lift for downhill skiing.  The fresh snow and crystal clear air without any dirt from traffic or industry is just out of this world.

best kept skiing secrets, skiing in Russia, Sheregesh Ski Arena,

The evening comes – and with it a Russian  Disco – in open air, of course, people are dancing and shaking, and I join voluntarily – for if I’d stand still I’d freeze to the floor in a jiffy. The crazy but dishy looking disc-jockey is undressing his shirt and rubbing his naked body with snow.  Just looking at him makes me shiver twice as fast. You could use a Russian sauna- outdoors – of course – but the mere thought of going there in my bathrobe lets me drop the idea immediately. So rather sooner than later we retire to the warm train and watch the young folks enjoying themselves.

Tired from all the exercise, everbody goes off to sleep realtively early in the train – after another elaborate dinner with nice chat + singing+partying.

The next morning is overcast and a snowstorm at 120km/hr is racing down the mountains.  This does not stop some really brave folks from skiing – although you can see absolutely nothing.  Lifts don’t work – but they just walk up. Around lunchtime I decide to prove my bravery by riding down a slope on a car tire, which twists around so much, I don’t know where I’m going, but somehow I land downhill without having collided with anyone or anything, laughing my head off.

It’s something I’ve never done before, you’d be too embarassed to do this in an Austrian skiing resort, anyway. Sunday the train leaves – another 16hrs ride back to Novosibirsk, where most people are leaving right to work on Monday morning.

We spend the day visiting friends and having a lavish lunch, after which we really use a Russian Sauna – splendid!  In between the sweating more delicacies are served – and again the vodka and tea appear out of thin air.  What a spledid way to idle away a full afternoon and evening.

There’s one thing for sure – you make great friends on such a trip, get to taste lovely Russian specialities like pickled mushrooms and onions or ghurkins which somebody’s granny has lovingly prepared, drink absolutely the best vodka in the country – as everybody has some secret source for his supply and do some phantastic skiing, have so much fun that your cheek- muscles hurt with all the laughter. . But – I does help if you speak Russian – even if only a little – to fully enjoy this.

My heart is lost to the Altai Region – I simply MUST return there soon, but – in Summer – definitely in Summer.  As I suffer the cold poorly. Skiing at minus 40 degrees Celsius- no – thank you Sir – not again!

I was shivering so much during the trip, that I was phantasizing about another recent holiday in Maui, where we stayed in this absolutely luxurious and lavish Kahana Falls Resort at Maui- Hawaii, for a price of $ 287,- for a week, at 27 degrees Celsius PLUS.  Speaking about Hawaii to a Sibirian man makes his eyes roll around  in the sockets.  I only had about 50 business cards in my bag – I had to give them all out, they were actually pulled out of my hand.

But guess what – several of my new Russian friends emailed me about my GRN travel membership,  and joined immediatey after gathering the info on some webinars.  You have to give it to Russians – the SEE opportunity, when it’s in front of them – and grab it. That trips was surely phantastic – in all aspects…I’m not one to brag about how much money I made – because I’ll admit – maybe the tax people are after me – and I’m not any kind of guru – just a normal person who loves sports and adventure – I have a talent for languages – as I speak 7 – Russian amongst them – but it’s in no way perfect – and I’m not always on the fast lane – sometimes just relaxing slow times while  learning about whatever  fascinates me – I enjoy this also – it’s a lifestyle I have chosen, and all friends from youth can’t understand – but they are professors, politicians – higher bank employees – whatever – they could never imagine it – or rather – DARE it.  Their fixpoint always was a kind of security that – as they only discover now – does not really exist.  Younger Russians KNOW that such security does not actually exist.   Beinglocked in behind the iron curtain for so long – they LOVE to travel, and love to do it with friends and/or family. And they love luxury. Getting luxury for cheap is – well – what more can you ask? Going to the most lovely places on earth – it’s a never ending dream.  Russians don’t LIKE to be pressed into international "guided" tours. They hate it. They are adventurouse enough to venture things on their own – someone of the group is always fluent in English – they’ll hire a guide of their own – if needed – but mostly – they’ll just enjoy staying at a lovely luxury resort and take what’s on offer there.  If they decide to return – they might want more – but most likely – they look for a NEW place to go. DISCOVER THE WORLD – is their motto. Rightly so.

Only so much – - this crazy skiing trip to Sheregesh it was a KILLING – because I earn $1000,- for every new person I recruit into the GRN membership – and THEY in turn – earn the same amount, when THEY recruit someone. And in case you ask – of COURSE GRN has NO  accommodation for hire in this remote place -  nobody has – guess why we slept on the train???Because we can’t afford any better? It’s about the ADVENTURE !! It’s all about meeting new like-minded people – learning to love and understand each other. Making business is NOT a numbers game – as the gurus tell you – it’s about TRULY loving and understanding people and their desires, their wants and dreams -  and understanding WHY they would love to do what you do. I NEVER recruit anyone  – ALL I DO IS INFORM THEM   give access to the system – I might supply more info by phone which they have presently no access to- as a non-member -  – just for info – and I never lie

I’ll tell them – no general info is available by the system in Russian – it’s just in English, lecutures in Spanish and Portugese – at certain times. For Russians – this is NO PROBLEM  – they either speak good English themselves – or have close friends/relatives  doing  it all for them.

This may hurt some of my US-readers – but – the aberage Russians I have met – are 10 times better educated than the average US-persons I’ve met. So – even if they don’t speak English fluently – they know how and where to get what  they don’t understand and know. I have – in general- high respect of these people – and believe me – they are no fools – quite the opposite is true. And all these really sampathetic people are making the best of a rather bad situation – and are doing it successfully and – in most of all casess – also LEGALLY. The average Russian is a law abiding and very passionate patriot – and what’s wrong with that?

And where the LAW  was not fast enough to catch up with real life – well – he’ll just proceed – and find a way. Find a way to make life as it is NOW – where he has to make his living NOW – and not to some distant dream – like the "Soviet dream" -of the ever fowarding 5 year plans -  that never came about.

Fact is – even in my home country – = Austria  I find that politics is 10-20 years behind REALITY-  as is social law and all kinds of laws  in connection therewith –

European Community Laws are 10-20 years BEHIND reality. -Meaning – laws don’t  conform to what – AS LIFE IS RIGHT NOW. I don’t know about USA – but I guess it’s not far different.

This – and much more – you’ll  learn when travelling and speaking to many people.  Seeing – how much we HAVE IN COMMON – and it’s  more than what divides us!! This is WHAT REALLY FASCINATES ME.

We don’t start any kind of revolution – but we just live our lives. That’s all …..we are the ones who slip and slide —no heroes there wanting to change society for ever – you’ll not find the kinds of Stalins and Hitlers, Mussolinis, Nixon, or Bushes who see the enemy behind every bush. There ARE no enemies – there are just people – trying to live a life – finding a LIFESTYLE for themselves.

Those that want to change the world – are those 1 in 1000 billions  – we are not cut out for that.  We are the ones making the best of a "funny"- in a cynical sense -  world – realizing – how mightless we are – but at the same time – making the best of what we have – ONE life – as long as our Creator grants it – and having as much  fun out of it has we can – and enjoying it. We ARE  responsible – yes – as our GRN  – membership goes down to our kids. What more can you ask? Even if we lose everything in money – this is here to enjoy for those we love.  For the next 100 years – that’s SOMETHING!

Safari in Kenya or Snow in Sussex – Your Choice

February 20th, 2010

The first snow of winter 2009 has finally arrived!  Even on the South Coast where it’s quite unusual to get more than a few snow flurries, the snow has already started to settle.  The kids are all excited because it could mean the end of the school term a few days early!  Of course it’s not just the children who enjoy the snow.  I am heading towards my mid 40’s and I still get a thrill with the first snowfall of winter.

If only it could have held off just one more week though and then we could have had a white Christmas.  Call me an old romantic, but I still get a tingle at the thought of pulling the curtains back on Christmas morning and seeing that during the night we have had a heavy snowfall and everything has that magical feeling about it.

The reality is that it will probably be blowing a gale with rain gushing against the window and all dark and depressing.  At least with the weather so bad I have an excuse to light the coal fire and sit down and watch the television all afternoon.

Oh the joys of Christmas, it doesn’t get much better does it?

Well as it happens it does.  I’ve already picked up quite a few travel brochures and I am going to be going through them to see where I can book my next holiday.

I have such a selection, Safari Holidays, Kenya Holidays, Florida Holidays, Las Vegas holidays, you name the destination, I probably have the brochure.

I love looking through the brochures seeing what sort of adventure I can plan and what sort of hotel I can book.  Some of the hotel accommodation is absolutely breathtaking and you can choose to treat yourself to an all inclusive deal.  At the other end of the spectrum you could choose to book something completely unique and spend your evenings in a tent enjoying the beautiful night sky.  Personally I enjoy my creature comforts, so much as the night sky may be beautiful, I need a proper roof over my head.

Wherever I do head off to, I know it will be great as I will be with my family and we always have great holidays and enjoy new experiences.

Plan A Mini Vacation To Relax

February 20th, 2010

One of the problems associated with telecommuting or working at home is drawing the line between work and play. Since you are always at your office, it is sometimes tempting to head back into the little cubby at home after dinner and to let family time suffer.

When you find yourself in this rut, put the work back into your home office storage and start packing for a mini vacation. Every season has a great break to offer you.

While you may be thinking it is winter and too cold outside to do much, remember that winter means snow. So whether you pull out the snowmobile or the salomon ski equipment, pack some high energy snacks made with your black decker food processor and head up to the mountains.

During the summer, you will find many great opportunities at the beach. Take some time to enjoy this almost free mini vacation so that you can come back refreshed and ready to get some work done.

Spring and autumn days are perfect for a hike in the woods or a drive through the country side. If you are an amusement park fan, these are often days of low attendance so you are able to take your time and ride some of your favorite rides. These days are also great ones for a visit to a park or a zoo.

Mini vacations do not have to be long. Sometimes it only takes an afternoon but at other times you may want to take a Friday and Monday to stretch a weekend into four days. Once you return to your work, you will have a fresh perspective and be able to get more done than if you had continued your normal hectic schedule.

Everyone needs some time to play. Pressures of work and family often leave us feeling disconnected. A mini vacation allows us time for refocusing and redirecting our energies so that we are more prepared for the challenges of life.

Take a minute to think about the last time you spent a few hours with friends or family. How long has it been since you have had a chance to relax a few hours? Stop waiting and make the phone calls that will prepare for you to be away from the office and schedule a break. Even if you cannot take a spontaneous mini vacation, making plans for next week will give you a time to look forward to and may push you to reach your work goals today.

Thoughts On A Great Family Winter Holiday

February 20th, 2010

The winter season is a time of wonderful joy and fun for so many people. When that winter season begins to arrive, bringing colder weather and darker days, you just know that the festive season is around the corner and your mind naturally arcs towards it.

The first thing you could consider is whether or not you are going to stay at home or head off on vacation. Do you want a nice festive traditional time in the snow, or would you prefer to enjoy your vacation lying on a sun lounger by a pool overlooking a beautiful blue sea and white sand?

If you are looking to stay at home you need to think about whether you are going to spend it with immediate family only, or with extended family added on, or maybe some friends as well. Or perhaps you will be looking to take a break from doing all the cooking and being the host this year and to take up one of your many invites and go off and eat a meal deliciously and meticulously prepared by somebody else. Wherever you decide to be, as long as you are with people you love then it will no doubt be a fun filled and happy occasion.

Holidays are all about parties. And parties means you’d probably need to get an appropriate gift for the host. It’ll be great if all the parties were written down on a calnder. Then, you can just go shopping and in one swoop, you can buy all the gifts at one go.

For the kids particularly its important to get something they will really enjoy to play this school break. For babies perhaps some baby bath toys for them to play with or some cars transformers for the younger kids to play with. This year a Nintendo Wii black helmet will be the most awesome gift a teenager would love to get. You want to be looking to get things that are fun and can be played with, not anything too practical.

And then there is the meal. What sort of meat will you dish up, and what vegetables will you serve? A traditional turkey with stuffing and all the usual trimmings is never far off the mark. Depending on the size of the table you can never go wrong with several desserts at the end, with cheese, crackers and mulled wine to polish things off.

However you choose to enjoy your own holiday, the most important thing to remember is what it all represents and to enjoy the time you can with the people closest to you.

Spa breaks on the moon

February 20th, 2010

Maybe spa breaks should be even more holistic and less ecliptic

When you imagine a spa break, you might think of walking around a beautifully therapeutic environment, with waterfalls and singing tropical birds. You might imagine being wrapped in a huge fluffy dressing gown, that feels like it have been perfectly woven by angels. Why? Because a Spa is very much about having your body pampered by experts intent on making sure every inch of you is relaxed and stress free as possible.

What you might not imagine is the opening scene to Ridley Scott’s Alien, your fluffy dressing gown is a cold space suit and you’re running through corridors avoiding aliens to find your 4.

That’s awesome, but surely it will be even better as boffins come up with different ideas., are we in fact in danger of loosing the very sanctity of what a spa treatments really are. Here is our pick of a selection of the most bizarre space age treatments and Spa’s online.

1) High tech body spa machines

This spa in Skopje has high tech body work machines that look just like small space pods from some sixties movie B movie.

2) 3D pluri-sensorial dimension Spa

This is the galactic Exedra Nice Hotel Wellness Centre in Nice. It is said to offer a “3D pluri-sensorial dimension never seen before,” I have no idea what that means, but it does look very nice (I wonder if they will place it in my Torquay self catering accommodation?)

3) The space age salon

This is a design concept for a new space age salon by designer Vizitiu Eduard, filled with transparent glass partitions, retro graphic art designs and walls that curve in on themselves. Spa breaks for space travellers, now there’s an idea.

4) Spa Takeaway hydro-fusion

This is a futurist spa that you can have in your home; it is basically a huge bathing tube where the user gets; a hydrotherapy spa treatment with inbuilt hydro-fusion, aromatherapy and musical technology (it has nozzles that spray water, play music and smells beautiful).
Spa massage in hydro chambers

5) The Spa shower system

This is the kind of phone booth that even superman wouldn not have minded changing in. Fair enough, you got me, it’s a shower, but it is very pretty.

6) Futuristic head massager

This head gear would well may you look like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica.

Top 6 Egyptian Landmarks

February 20th, 2010

On the West Bank of the River Nile, the Valley of the Kings at Luxor is home to many historical sites. There are over 60 tombs with over 120 chambers in the Valley of the Kings. The pharaohs were buried here. They believed that they would meet their gods here in the afterlife. You will also find the area that the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered. Unfortunately, most of the tombs are not open to the public. This place is truly unique, and has been a popular spot for archaeological exploration since the 18th Century. It became a World Heritage Site in 1979, having been long considered one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world.

Luxor Temple

The Temple at Luxor is right in the centre of Luxor, so if you do head to Luxor you shouldn’t miss it. Built around 1400BC, the temple’s main purpose was to celebrate the annual festival of Opet. You cannot fail to be in awe as you gaze at this place, which is over 3000 years old. If you visit in the evening you’ll see the complex lit up spectacularly. The temple is a deservedly popular attraction.

The Temple of Karnak

This vast complex of ruined temples, pylons and chapels is located near Luxor. It has been noted in history as on of the most important places of Ancient Egypt’s worshiping. Ancient hieroglyphics cover everything here, and the result is spectacular. You’ll also find cultural performances, and sound a light shows about the history of Kamak’s Temples.

The Egyptian Museum

Located in Cairo, the Egyptian Museum is home to over 120,000 items of treasured found around Egypt. It is important to arrive at the museum early, as it is probably one of Egypt’s busiest attractions. It is here you will find many of the treasures that were discovered within the tombs as well as over 20 actual mummies in the Royal Mummy Room. The star attraction here, however, is undoubtedly the tomb of Tutankhamen and the treasures buried with it. A good crowd usually gathers around the solid gold mask that rested on the king’s head. This mask weighs 24.5 pounds of solid gold and it is believed that the face on the front looks very much like that of the King.

The Great Sphynx of Giza

The Great Sphynx is the largest statue created from one piece of stone. Believed to date back to 3000BC, it has the body of a lion and the head of a human, built by the Ancient Egyptians. The Sphynx was buried up to its neck in sand until the 1920s when it was fully uncovered.

The Pyramids of Giza

If you are at the Sphynx then there is not a chance that you will be missing the Pyramids. There are three main pyramids in Giza, one which is the Great Pyramid. What was originally smooth limestone has been morphed into step like structures by years of weather erosion. Only the top of the smallest pyramid has some of its limestone left but this lacks the polished texture too due to erosion. There were seven wonders of the ancient world. The Great Pyramid is the only one that still exists.

Palawan Paradise – The Place To Have A Great Respite

February 14th, 2010

Palawan paradise never fails to attract droves of tourists and it is probably the last unspoiled nature boundary of the Philippines. The island of Palawan is one of the Philippine’s major nature gem, protect some of the world’s most different ecosystem, geological wonders, rare species, vintage society and local customs, and mingost of all, perfect and pure white sand beaches.

Palawan paradise offers superfluity of natural wonders to see, with its numerous diving sites and wildlife conservatories. Palawan is found to be the sanctuary of tourists from the urban areas’ rat-maze insanity until it effortlessly able to join the consciousness and soul into one with the island’s profusion of nature. Palawan is said to be the candy with a surprise at the center because of abundant inside-attractions that you can find, explore and enjoy:

* Busanga Island – the first place that you should definitely go to. Visit this place if you are searching for the finest diving spots.

* El Nido Natural Marine Reserve – a Palawan paradise and one of the country’s premier beach and diving destinations. The protected park of El Nido spans landmasses and seascapes that offer the tourists an alluring yet balanced visual extravagance of verdant virgin rainforests, limestones, mangroves and cerulean blue shorelines. Rare sea cows as well as schools of marine life like manta rays and tropical fishes are found that are taking advantage of the natural sanctuary.

* Saint Paul Subterranean River National Park – beneath the towering limestone cracks and marble giants lie the world’s famous 8 kilometer subterranean “underground” river that starts its course from the Sulu Sea and eventually empties out into the South China Sea. Accessible from Puerto Princesa, Palawan in an hour or so, the world heritage spot boasts the amazing stalactites, crystal-clear pools near the isolated seawater, and natural domes. Nearby, the calls of monkeys, exotic species of birds, and lizards summon tourists to take a turn through the densely forested Monkey Trail.

* Calauit Island Natural Park – it is as if a large piece of Africa has been transported to an unlikely host of islands. Calauit Island sports a pseudo-African Savannah leaping with native African beasts, such as gazelles, giraffes, impalas and zebras. The foreign wildlife peacefully coexists with the local animals like mouse deer, monitor lizards and leopard cats.

* Tubbataha Reefs – a strong contender for one of the seven wonders of nature. The reef system is the country’s biggest marine reserve, at about 33 hectares of it that is situated in the Sulu Sea. The reefs are spilling over with manta rays, reef sharks, overabundance of tropical fish and giant sea turtles all making homes in submerged coral atolls and coral formations. It is also a diving destination of international prestige, as recreational divers and serious marine biologists all over the world go here to study its spectacular beauty.

* Tabon Caves – caves that have spectacular archeological riches. It is in these series of 200 or more caves that the 20,000-year-old fossils of the Tabon Man, the primeval inhabitants of the island were found. The ruins come along with evenly aged artifacts and livelihood implements. It is precisely for these reasons that Palawan is hailed as the cradle of the Philippine civilization.

Actually, one of Palawan’s advantages is the remoteness it has with the other islands surrounding it. It consequently remains largely unchanged by the hustle and bustle and haze of the active local shipping industry.

Having previewed its natural wonders, Palawan is undeniably a jewel amongst the Philippine islands. Before the damaging effects of human activity are evident, let yourself enjoy the unspoiled gem of nature that is Palawan.

Palawan paradise is truly blessed with abundant sights and sounds to fill your senses. It is the perfect place to visit if you are in dire need of enjoyment, relaxation and discovery since this place has so many wonderful things to see, and for you to experience its amazing beauty.

February 14th, 2010

Located approximately 60 kilometres south of Queensland’s capital city of Brisbane, Tamborine Mountain is a volcanic plateau set within Australia’s Gold Coast hinterland.

The many attractions of the Mount Tamborine area include beautiful views on both sides of the range and the many craft and antique shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants of the area’s villages, which attract countless tourists each season.

The latest attraction to entice visitors to the mountain is the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk and Eco Centre. Set on 30 acres of magnificent rainforest, the Centre provides an eco-adventure that will take you along elevated walkways, past butterfly lookouts and waterfalls, to an amazing cantilevered 40-metre structure set 30-metres above the valley. This stroller-friendly walk is self-paced and takes approximately an hour – once back at the Centre visitors can browse the Gift Shop, enjoy lunch at the Birdwing Cafe or visit the Rainforest Eco Gallery. The latter has an array of rainforest fauna and flora information including displays and an aquarium containing a variety of Australian freshwater fish.

The Tamborine region is renowned for its fine wineries and one in particular has an added attraction that draws thousands of tourists every year. The Cedar Creek Estate Winery, set on a 22-acre lakeside property, is popular with local and overseas visitors due to its magical Glow-Worm Caves. The caves consist of 2 cavern-like man-made concrete structures linked by a tunnel. Inside, thousands of Glow-Worms radiate their unmistakable luminescent light as expert guides provide informative commentary on guided tours. After the tour, you can enjoy a mouth-watering meal overlooking the Wild Duck Lake, taste the winery’s specialty wines such as Chambourcin and Verdelho or take a stroll in the grounds along the Rainforest Walk.

If you enjoy walking, pop into the Mount Tamborine Visitors’ Centre situated in Doughty Park on Main Western Road and enquire about the various Tamborine National Park walking circuits. From one-hour strolls to six hour marathons, there are several walking tracks leading through magnificent subtropical rainforest and past awe-inspiring waterfalls, many of which have picnic and BBQ areas peppered along the way.

TMt Tamborine also has some amazing lookouts offering stunning views over the Gold Coast or to the West over the Hinterland.

Those with energy to burn can plan an action packed day at Tamborine Mountain’s Adventure Parc. The Parc itself stretches through many hectares of forest between bush & subtropical rainforest with almost 1,000 towering trees that stretch 18 metres above the ground. There are 68 elevated challenges, spread over 8 exciting flying-foxes and over four courses of varying difficulty.

The Park’s literature warns visitors to allow at least three hours to live out that Indiana Jones fantasy! This is a popular destination for corporate team-building groups, teenagers and active people of any age. For your protection, height and weight restrictions apply and all safety equipment is provided; just bring along closed in sports shoes and a sense of adventure.
